"The CHW Section of the APHA (American Public Health Association) has adopted the following definition of a community health worker: A community health worker is a frontline public health worker who is a trusted member of and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables the worker to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery. A community health worker also builds individual and community capacity by increasing health knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy. The Human Services Program is a Single-Source Provider with the Florida Certification Board (FCB). The coursework in this Certificate satisfies the educational requirements for the Certified Community Health Worker (CCHW) examination. There are additional requirements to quality for this examination (i.e., work experience). The goal of PROSPER is to use a strength-based, culturally relevant frame of reference to address health inequities in the African American community. With holistic and cultural approaches to wellness, the curriculum addresses multiple social determinants of health that contribute to chronic diseases within the African American community. Participants will come away with plans to actively improve their own health, as well as the health of their families and communities. 28 hour workshop.

Customized trainings are designed to address chronic diseases through evidence-based strategies and behavior change. We provide the skills necessary for health care workers and other health professionals to engage patients/clients in self-management and lifestyle changes that enhance health and reduce health risks.

Training help your organization: Understand role providing support to people with diabetes/Planning steps, implementing, and evaluating community-based diabetes activities.

3-hour course that helps to define stress, anxiety and depression, discuss the relationship of each and understand the consequences and how it can lead to other illnesses, Understand and communicate methods for healthy management of symptoms.

2-hour course to recognize the sings of substance abuse and alcohol abuse, administer and interpret drug and alcohol screening tools and identify appropriate interventions, etc.

3-hour course focused on behavioral health issues encountered in non-clinical settings, including serious mental illness (depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia spectrum disorders) and trauma. Recognize warning signs, apply communication skills to interact and create referral plans for treatment and screening.

3-hour course teaches individuals to identify triggers in the home environment and implement a plan to reduce them, understand Asthma Control Test, create referrals plans for treatment, review medications and execute asthma action plans.

Community health workers teach the basics of good health and link people to health care and social service systems. Upon completion of MCTC’s 17-credit Community Health Worker (CMHW) certificate and 80 hours of internship, you’ll be able to help improve health care access for underrepresented groups, the elderly and the chronically ill. The entire CMHW certificate program is offered during the fall semester or can be split across spring and summer semesters. You will be trained to work as a liaison between providers, clients and agencies; You will develop critical thinking as a framework for solving problems and making decisions; You will gain an understanding of how ethics influences client care; You will learn how to gather and record appropriate client and community information; You’ll acquire knowledge of basic concepts of the most common diseases found in client populations.

Norman dale's Community Health Worker is a 16 credit, two semester certificate program that is offered every fall semester with 8 credits being taken in the fall semester and 8 credits in the spring. After the training participants will learn; cultural competence; how to Improve access to health care for racial and ethnic minorities; how to Improve the quality of care for chronically ill people; how to Promote healthy communities; Educate clients and others about access to and use of healthcare resources.
