Community Health Worker Certificate (CHWC)

CHWC is a 2 semester 12 credit hrs training. The program can be a stand-alone certificate, preparing students to apply to the Ohio Board of Nursing for a Certificate to Practice. For students enrolled In the Health Science Technology Associate Degree, courses fulfil part of the requirements of the degree.

Community Health Worker

The CHW student must complete 100 hours of classroom training and 130 hours of field service. A successful background check is required. A completed application along with a $35 fee will be forwarded to The Ohio Board of Nursing for certification. Topics Covered are Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Electronic Health Records, CHW core and Health Promotion Curriculum, BLS CPR, First aid, Professionalism in Health Care. The classroom training is offered in the evening and the vast majority of the field service opportunities are during the day hours. Upon completion students receive: Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) Certificate of Completion; Ohio Board of Nursing Certificate as Community Health Worker; American Heart Association BLS CPR for Health Care Providers

Community Health Worker

This is a FLEX program of study and DOES NOT follow the College's calendar. The classroom meeting days and time will vary. The student must read the printed comments for actual meeting dates, classroom times, and practical hours. This program is offered approximately twice per calendar year, usually in the Fall and Spring quarters.The training will include; Community Health Worker I, Healthcare across the lifespan, Community Health Worker Directed Practice/Seminar. Training Paths and Standards

Path 1, New CHWs, is for Community Health Workers who seek certification through education & training, or who are just starting their career. Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

At least 16 years old.
Training through a vendor approved by the CHW Advisory Body.
- This training should include completion of an internship.
At least two references commenting on CHW work experience.
- One reference should come from a professional the applicant has worked with and one from a community member.
1000 hours proof of experience as a CHW within 3 years of application date.

Path 2, Experienced CHWs, is for Community Health Workers who seek certification through professional experience. Applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

At least 16 years old.
At least two references commenting on CHW work experience.
- One reference should come from a professional the applicant has worked with and one from a community member.
2000 hours proof of experience as a CHW within 3 years of application date.
